About Sumatera Utara

Sumatera Utara is a province of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra, and its capital is Medan. Sumatera Utara is a multicultural province. Here, one can experience a wealth of cultural diversity that is both colourful and unique.

According to Ministry of Tourism, Sumatera Utara is included on top 10 visited province in Indonesia. There are various kind of tourism place that could be found throughout the province, Berastagi is the best known as hilly place with a cooler temperature as the whole province is in tropical region. Lake Toba is the largest volcanic lake in the world with an island in the center. Nias Island and other several islands nearby named Batu Islands is the best place for surfing because of a good sea waves. The capital itself, Medan, has a lot place of interest, mainly on historical tourism. The city also known for its cuisine.

About Medan

Medan is the capital of Sumatera Utara province in Indonesia. The city is the fifth largest city in Indonesia by population and has diverse communities, ethinicities and religions reflected by its history. Because of its multiculturality, Medan has wide varieties of cuisine which are categorized as local, western, east and southern Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine, the city hosts a lot of cafes, restaurants, food centre and also street vendors with a varies prices. Durian, Bika Ambon, Lontong Medan are some popular food and nowhere more so in Medan.

For its landmark, there are many old buildings in Medan that still retain their Dutch architecture and become the attraction of the city. Also, Medan is one of the major shopping destinations of Indonesia. Medan is well-connected by road, air, rail and sea. There are plenty of options for public transport within city and intercity. One of the unique features of Medan are the motorized rickshaws known as Becak Motor (Betor) or Becak Mesin.
